In the literature it would appear that large networks of replicated databases are not practical due to scalability problems. This is certainly true for conventional approaches – for both pessimistic and optimistic locking systems. Jim Gray (a highly regarded researcher in database systems) found that there are cubic order increases in the number of deadlocks or reconciliations.

However CEDA manages to avoid assumptions made in his paper, leading to a linear dependency on the workload.
